Russian Navy Starts Forming Task Force in Mediterranean

Navy has begun forming a permanent task force to defend Russia’s interests in the Mediterranean Sea, reports Ria Novosti citing Russian navy commander.

“The defense minister has ordered us to form a task force that will operate in the Mediterranean Sea on a permanent basis,” commander told reporters after a defense ministry meeting. “We have already started work on this task.”

The navy decides to move their ships into area because of increased international tension in Mediterranean.

Russian Defense Minister earlier said that a decision to deploy task force has been made.

The task force may operate on a rotating basis and use ports in Cyprus, Montenegro, Greece and Syria as resupply points.
