BAE Systems Inks USS Higgins Contract

BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair, located in San Diego, Calif., has received a USD 7.79 million modification to previously awarded contract for USS Higgins (DDG 76).

Under the contract, BAE Systems will provide planning and execution of depot-level maintenance, alterations, and modifications that will update and improve the ship’s military and technical capabilities.

USS Higgins is the 26th ship in the Arleigh Burke – class of guided missile destroyers and the first ship in the Navy named after Marine Corps Colonel William R. Higgins.

Homeported in Naval Base San Diego, USS Higgins has been underway for nearly eight months.

Higgins is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility on maritime security operations, theater security cooperation efforts and support missions for Operation Enduring Freedom.

BAE Systems will provide planning and execution of depot-level maintenance, alterations, and modifications that will update and improve the ship’s military and technical capabilities.

This contract is part of the Multi-Ship Multi-Option program.

The work will be performed in San Diego, Ca., and is expected to be completed by April 2014.
