USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) arrived in Duqm, Oman for a scheduled port visit, Oct. 21.

This is the first time that Duqm, Oman has hosted an aircraft carrier. This port visit was designed to test the capability of the port to handle an aircraft carrier and provides the opportunity to strengthen the relationship with the Sultanate of Oman.

This visit was strategically important.

The actions taken and lessons learned during this first-ever visit by a nuclear powered aircraft carrier will help pave the way for future port calls here and reinforces the superb relationship that 5th fleet has with the Sultanate of Oman.
