Commander US 6th Fleet Tours USS Mitscher in Livorno, Italy

US Navy’s Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Mitscher (DDG 57) hosted Commander, U.S. 6th Fleet Vice Adm. James Foggo III during a scheduled port visit in Livorno, Italy, April 20, 2015.

USS Mitscher Commanding Officer Cmdr. Milciades “Tony” Then welcomed Foggo, who was accompanied by Chief of the Italian Fleet Vice Adm. Filippo Maria Foffi and Italian Naval Academy Commandant Rear Adm. Maurizio Ertreo. The visit was coordinated to help strengthen maritime partnerships in support of interoperability between the United States and Italy.

The visit consisted of a ship tour of the bridge, central controlling station and the combat information center. Mitscher also demonstrated a live simulation of its advanced capabilities.

Mitscher will soon return to its homeport in Norfolk after completing a scheduled deployment to the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of operation. The ship departed Norfolk in September 2014.
