Sailors embarked aboard the Military Sealift Command’s joint high-speed vessel USNS Spearhead (JHSV 1) conducted medical training for Senegalese, Moroccan and Spanish military forces in Dakar, Senegal, in support of the multinational maritime security exercise Saharan Express 2015, April 20.
The training involved instruction on tactical combat casualty care, as well as hands-on applications ranging from triage procedures to casualty extractions.
Saharan Express is a U.S. Africa Command-sponsored multinational maritime exercise designed to increase maritime safety and security in the waters off West Africa.
Exercise Saharan Express 2015, now in its fifth year, is one of four U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa/U.S. 6th Fleet-facilitated regional “Express” series exercises. The exercise is part of a comprehensive strategy under the Africa Partnership Station (APS) program. APS is designed to facilitate collaboration and exchanges in order to enhance skills for addressing maritime security challenges.
