US Navy’s EODMU 1 Changes Command

US Navy’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU) 1 held a change of command ceremony in Point Loma, California, May 1.

During the ceremony, Cmdr. Jeremy F. Thompson relieved Cmdr. Robert R. Porter III as commanding officer of EODMU 1.

Porter, who was commissioned through the Navy’s Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST), is a 1996 graduate of Boston University. His next assignment will be at Commander, Mine Counter Measures Squadron 7.

Thompson is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and received his commissioned in the Navy in 1993.

EODMU 1 provides operational explosive ordnance disposal capability for location and identification, rendering safe, recovery, field evaluation, and disposal of all explosive ordnance including chemical and nuclear weapons across the globe
