USS Ross Leaves the Black Sea

The Arleigh-Burke class guided-missile destroyer USS Ross (DDG 71) departed the Black Sea June 3, 2015, after a series of engagements to promoted peace and stability in the region.

Ross’ presence in the Black Sea reaffirmed U.S. commitment toward the region and increased joint operational capabilities amongst U.S., NATO and regional Black Sea partners.

Ross entered the Black Sea May 21, 2015, in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve.

USS Ross (DDG 71) conducted a brief port visit in Constanta, Romania May 24, 2015, before heading back out to sea to conduct underway engagements with the Romanian navy. From May 25 to 28 Ross participated in naval exercises with the Romanian navy.

Ross conducted several surface force exercises with Romanian ships including the ROS Regina Maria (F 222) and ROS Marasesti (F 111) to achieve specific training objectives.

USS Ross also conducted an underway engagement with the Ukrainian navy frigate Hetman Sahaidachny (U 130) June 1 and 2, 2015.

USS Ross, forward-deployed to Rota, Spain, Va., is conducting naval operations in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe. The ship deployed from Naval Station Rota March 18, 2015.
