Authorities

The Spanish Navy’s auxiliary oiler replenishment ship (AOR) ‘Cantabria’, currently deployed in the Mediterranean Sea on maritime security tasks, paid a visit to an Egyptian fishing boat sailing off the northern coast of Libya.

After detecting and monitoring the boat, with 16 sailors on board, the ‘Cantabria’ CO requested permission to visit the vessel.

During the visit, the sailors were given fresh water and medicines and were briefed on the activities conducted under the aegis of operation ‘Active Endeavor’.

The ‘Cantabria’ is participating in operation ‘Active Endeavor’ integrated into the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG-2). Its main mission is to contribute to maritime security, to protect shipping and to deter any illicit activities which may serve to finance international terrorism, like the illegal arms trafficking.
