Measuring 51.43 meters in length and 8 meters in breadth, ICGS Akshar has a displacement of 330 tons at a draught of 2.5 meters.

The vessel is powered by twin marine diesel engines coupled with controllable pitch propellers (CPP) — the first installation of its kind in this class of fast patrol vessels, according to the navy.

Designed for speed and endurance, it can exceed 27 knots and cover up to 1,500 nautical miles. To support sustained operations, the ship is also fitted with an advanced integrated machinery control system that enhances reliability, efficiency, and overall readiness.

The vessel will be operated by a complement of six officers and 35 sailors. Purpose-built for fisheries protection, Exclusive Economic Zone surveillance, coastal patrol, anti-smuggling, anti-piracy, and search and rescue missions, ICGS Akshar is expected to strengthen India’s coastal and offshore security architecture.

To remind, in July 2025, GSL launched ICGS Atal (Yard 1275), the sixth vessel in this series. The launching ceremony took place at the shipyard in Vasco-da-Gama.
