The contract, which has a value of more than €100 million, will provide Denmark with the latest technology and the most modern coastal artillery system.

The coastal defence system consists of Kongsberg’s advanced fire control system, the NSM missile and launch pads. Denmark signed a contract for NSM missiles for its frigates earlier this year. The country is acquiring the missiles and equipment for its Iver Huitfeldt-class frigates.

“The acquisition will enable Denmark to combat modern naval threats from the land and will strengthen the country’s operational capabilities. In addition, it will help increase the NSM CDS’ overall presence from the Baltic Sea to the North Sea,” said Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace.

With the acquisition, Denmark becomes the fifth nation to acquire the coastal artillery system in NATO, and includes Poland, the USA/US Marine Corps, Romania and Latvia.

The NSM will soon be manufactured in the Kongsberg Missile Factory, which is under construction near Newcastle, with NSM deliveries from the site commencing in 2027.

The NSM is an anti-ship missile developed by Kongsberg and first deployed in 2012 by the Royal Norwegian Navy on its frigates and coastal corvettes. Several other countries then selected it: the United StatesPoland, Romania, Canada, GermanyAustraliaMalaysiaSpainthe United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium and Latvia, and Denmark.
