KONGSBERG signed a contract with kta naval systems, which was established to develop combat systems for non-nuclear submarines and to develop, produce, and maintain combat systems for submarines from TKMS. Kta naval systems is a joint venture between TKMS, its Naval Electronic Systems business unit (Atlas Elektronik) and Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace.

The contract for the delivery of ORCCA combat systems has a total value of NOK 3.5 billion ($343.7 million).

Earlier in December 2025, the Norwegian government announced plans to acquire two more Type 212CD submarines, in addition to the four that have already been ordered. The proposal is awaiting formal approval by the Norwegian parliament (Stortinget).

The new Type 212 CD submarines will share the low signatures of the Type 212 boats in service with the navies of Germany and Italy but will have extended range, speed, and endurance to allow worldwide operations, according to TKMS. The first vessel is expected to be delivered to the Royal Norwegian Navy in 2029.

“Following these orders, Norway and Germany will together operate a fleet of 12 modern submarines equipped with the industry’s most advanced combat system. Submarines are an important strategic capability, helping to deter potential adversaries and strengthen the defense of national interests,” said Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace.

In a separate statement, Kongsberg revealed it inked a contract with German shipbuilding major TKMS for the delivery of four navigation systems for the German Navy’s Type 212A submarine refit program. The value of the deal is more than NOK 600 million ($60 million).

The agreement also includes deliveries to the German Navy’s training facilities for the Type 212A class submarines. The products are based on technology and solutions developed for the joint Norwegian-German Type 212CD submarine program, which is being delivered by Kongsberg and TKMS.
