Navy, Coast Guard Assist in Repatriation of 15 Sri Lankan Fishermen

Sri Lanka Navy and the Sri Lanka Coast Guard assisted in the repatriation of 15 Sri Lankan fishermen who were released from Indian custody.

The released fishermen and 03 fishing boats named “Niranjana”, “Gulf Star Marina” and “Champa 6” were handed over to the Coast Guard officials by Indian Coast Guard Ship Rani Ambakka in the seas off Kankasanthurai on 10th February 2012. They were safely brought to Kankasanthurai Harbour and arrangements were made for them to return to their respective home towns.

The early release of the Sri Lankan fishermen and their fishing boats comes as a result of speedy measures taken by the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Coast Guard and Indian counterparts.
