Sri Lanka Navy Rescues Injured Fisherman

Sri Lanka Navy rescued an injured fisherman in the eastern deep seas in the early hours of 01st October 2012. He was brought to the Trincomalee Naval Hospital for medical treatment.

The fisherman had been among the 8-member crew of a multi-day fishing trawler named “Lakshitha”, which had left for fishing from Devinuwara Fisheries Harbour on 25th September 2012. He had been injured when their trawler accidently collided with a ship at deep sea East of Trincomalee. The Navy was informed of the incident by another multi-day trawler and action was taken to bring the injured fisherman ashore for medical treatment in response to a request made by the trawler’s owner.

Following the instructions sent by the Naval Headquarters, the Eastern Naval Command directed Fast Naval Craft P 451 for the task. Subsequently, the fisherman was brought to Trincomalee with the assistance of Fast Naval Craft P 483.
