Sri Lanka Navy Rescues Injured Fisherman

Sri Lanka Navy rescued an injured fisherman in the eastern deep seas in the early hours of 01^st October 2012. He was brought to the Trincomalee Naval Hospital for medical treatment.

The fisherman had been among the 8-member crew of a multi-day fishing trawler named “Lakshitha”, which had left for fishing from Devinuwara Fisheries Harbour on 25^th September 2012. He had been injured when their trawler accidently collided with a ship at deep sea East of Trincomalee. The Navy was informed of the incident by another multi-day trawler and action was taken to bring the injured fisherman ashore for medical treatment in response to a request made by the trawler’s owner.

Following the instructions sent by the Naval Headquarters, the Eastern Naval Command directed Fast Naval Craft P 451 for the task. Subsequently, the fisherman was brought to Trincomalee with the assistance of Fast Naval Craft P 483.
