Under the contract, Raytheon will manufacture AIM-9X missiles, together with associated hardware and software, for the US military and Foreign Military Sales (FMS) customers.

The AIM-9X is an infrared-guided, short-range missile designed for both air-to-air and surface-to-air engagements. It is compatible with a range of modern aircraft and can also be deployed from ground-based systems, including the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS), providing an additional layer of air defense.

According to the company, the AIM-9X is in service with the US military and more than 35 allied and partner nations and has been used operationally in multiple theaters. To meet increasing demand, Raytheon is expanding its production capacity to 2,500 missiles annually.

Most of the contract work will be carried out at the company’s facility in Tucson, Arizona, where Raytheon is also expanding its engineering workforce to support several defense programs.

“Our teams have streamlined production, shortened lead times and ramped up deliveries of AIM-9X missiles to keep pace with growing demand,” said Barbara Borgonovi, president of Naval Power at Raytheon.

“This contract, along with our close partnership with the U.S. Navy, allows us to sustain that momentum and ensure U.S. and allied forces have this advanced, combat-proven capability they depend on in high threat environments.”
