Navy Intercepts 100 Persons Illegally Bound for Australia

Sri Lanka Navy intercepted 100 persons illegally bound for Australia in a multi-day trawler on 24th November 2012. The trawler named “SB Ali” was intercepted by a Fast Naval Patrol Craft attached to the Southern Naval Command 15 nautical miles off Kirinda seas.

Among the arrested persons are 74 Tamils, 18 Muslims and 8 Sinhalese that included 90 males (86 men and 4 boys) and 10 women (8 women and 2 girls). They are residents of Vavuniya, Trincomalee, Gandara, Ampara, Kilinochchi, Batticaloa, Beruwala and Dikwella. They were brought to Galle Harbour and handed over to the CID for further investigations.
