Senior Naval Officer Conducts Pastoral Visit to Bristol’s Royal Navy’s Reserve Unit

A Senior Naval Officer conducted a pastoral visit to Bristol’s Royal Navy’s Reserve Unit in the City. Commodore Gareth Derrick Royal Navy is the Commanding Officer of the Royal Navy Reserve, which includes Sailors and Royal Marines, and he conducted a visit and inspection of HMS FLYING FOX, in Bristol, on Thursday 1st Nov 2012.

During his visit he inspected an Honour Guard, made up from the ships company and led by Sub-Lieutenant Masters. Commodore Gareth also awarded three Commanding Officer’s Commendations.

Able Rate Jennifer Kearney received her award for: “sterling efforts to raise over £1500 for the Royal Navy Royal Marines Charity” during the summer.

The Commanding Officer of HMS Flying Fox, Commander Sue Jameson RNR said in the citation:

“You did this fantastic feat by initiating and maintaining Whole Ship support for a series of unit activities from quiz nights, film nights, a dinner and salsa night and a horse racing night amongst others … as Captain of the glorious if beaten, and distinctly chilled but not dispirited, Dragon Boat race team in September.

“Your exemplary conduct and dedication is in keeping with the highest traditions of the Royal Navy.”
