Naval Station Durban Change of Command Parade

Friday, 01 November 2013 was a memorable day for Cdr C.E. Khumalo, as it was his first time in his South African Navy (SAN) career history that he assumed command. He said it was an honour to take over Naval Station Durban (NS Dbn), soon to be Naval Base Durban.

Senior members from the South African National Defence Force, Armscor, Transnet, Liberty Life, Durban University of Technology and other companies that have close associations with the SAN attended this memorable parade that took place at the NS Dbn sports ground.

Flag Officer Commanding R Adm (JG) D. Mkhonto, gave words of encouragement at the parade.

Flag Officer Commanding R Adm (JG) D. Mkhonto, gave words of encouragement at the parade. “Allow me to mention that it will be trying times for Cdr Khumalo and his ship’s company, as they undertake the day-to-day management of NS Dbn and at the same time try to incorporate the new developments that will be taking place. That said, I believe that there are many envious officers in the SA Navy today, who would love to be standing here, keen to tackle the challenges and to overcome them.”

Lt Cdr R. Dulamo assumed the role of acting OC of NS Dbn after the untimately passing of Cdr Mgquba. Cdr C.E. Khumalo said, “I do not expect to change things immediately, I want to observe at how things are done, before I implement a new set of rules.”

Junior and Senior Ratings of NS Dbn stood proudly on parade as they welcomed the new Officer Commanding.
