UK Navy Praised for Flood Tackling Efforts

The Royal UK Navy has been praised for its efforts in tackling floods which hit the town of Romsey in February.

Romsey Town Council held an official reception last week for some of the Portsmouth-based sailors at the town hall as a token of its appreciation.

Fifty Navy personnel were deployed to Romsey for several days during the floods, filling sandbags and helping build flood defences.

Councillor Ian Richards, town mayor at the time of the floods, said: “On behalf of the townspeople of Romsey I would like to express our sincere thanks to the members of the Royal Navy who saved our lovely town from more serious flooding.”
