USS Higgins Hosts COMNAVSURFOR

Vice Adm. Thomas S. Rowden, Commander, Naval Surface Forces (COMNAVSURFOR), spoke with the officers and crew of the guided missile destroyer USS Higgins (DDG 76) during an inport visit, Jan. 26.

The purpose of Rowden’s visit was to assess the ship’s readiness and spend time with the officers and crew as part of COMNAVSURFOR responsibilities.

During his visit Rowden met with Cmdr. Allen Johnson, the ship’s commanding officer, and toured key spaces of the ship including the bridge, main engine room number two, central control station, and combat information center.

Along the way Rowden met with Sailors, asking them about their careers and experiences on board Higgins. He concluded his tour by addressing both the chief petty officers mess and the wardroom regarding personal readiness.

Higgins, homeported in San Diego, is currently in the basic phase of training in preparation for future deployments.
