Highlights of US 6th Fleet’s Week

Sailors, operating forward in the U.S. 6th Fleet, conduct daily operations, port visits and engage with allies and partners to maintain a forward presence throughout Europe and Africa and improve maritime security.

From all of the operations they conducted, we give you these highlights:

While sailing in the Atlantic Ocean on April 6, USS Donald Cook (DDG 75) conducted flight operations with a Sikorsky S-61 helicopter as part of Flag Officer Sea Training (FOST) April 6, 2015. Donald Cook, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer forward-deployed to Rota, Spain, is conducting naval operations in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe.

USS Ross, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, forward-deployed to Rota, Spain, organized a M-16 rifle series weapons familiarization course while in the Mediterranean Sea.

And aboard the flight deck of USS Jason Dunham (DDG 109), Sailors prepared to fight a simulated helicopter fire during flight deck crash and salvage training on April 6, 2015. During the training they conducted an evacuation from an MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter and inspected a simulated fire in the helicopter. The exercises were carried out while the vessel sailing in the Black Sea.

Jason Dunham, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, homeported in Norfolk, is conducting naval operations in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe.
