Anti-DUI Presentation Organized for Carl Vinson Sailors

The Coalition of Sailors Against Destructive Decisions (CSADD) organization and the Second Class Petty Officer’s Association (SCPOA) on board USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) conducted an anti-DUI presentation, in the ship hangar bay, May 23.

The presentation was aimed at educating the crew, who has gone nearly ten months without operating a motor vehicle, on the threats of ARIs and DUIs, before making their first U.S. port in a few days.

Sailors experienced a simulated burial-at-sea with side boys, a burial detail carrying an ensign clad coffin and a prayer from the command chaplain, all in honor of those who have lost their lives in DUI incidents.

Sailors were encouraged to sign a banner signifying their pledge to avoid DUIs; members of CSADD and the SCPOA alike emphasized the impact lapses in judgment can have on the lives
of every one.

Carl Vinson and embarked Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 17 are supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 3rd Fleet area of operations en route to the Vinson homeport of San Diego after a nearly ten-month deployment in support of Operation Inherent Resolve in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
