New Commander Boards USS Forrest Sherman

The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Forrest Sherman (DDG 98) held a change of command ceremony aboard the vessel in Salalah, Oman, June 13.

Cmdr. Todd Zenner relieved Cmdr. John Krisciunas to become the ship’s seventh commanding officer since the ship’s commissioning in 2006.

Krisciunas, a native of Wyndham, New Hampshire, took command of Forrest Sherman in January 2014 after serving a successful tour as the ship’s executive officer. Upon assuming command, Krisciunas led Forrest Sherman through pre-deployment workups including numerous inspections and exercises before deploying with the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group (TRCSG) in March 2015.

Zenner, a native of Cotulla, Texas, reported to Forrest Sherman in January 2014 as executive officer.

Krisciunas will transfer to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he will serve as federal executive fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

While deployed, the strike group will serve in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility to improve warfighting capability and focus on maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts, which help establish conditions for regional stability.
