Reykjavik, Iceland Welcomes USS San Antonio

Authorities

The amphibious transport dock ship USS San Antonio (LPD 17) arrived in Reykjavik, Iceland, for a routine port visit, July 1.

While in port, Sailors and Marines will have the chance to visit the various cultural sites, shop and enjoy local hospitality.

This port visit to Reykjavik is the first since July 2013 and demonstrates the shared commitment the U.S. has toward promoting safety and stability within the region.

San Antonio served as the command ship for Commander, Striking and Support Forces NATO, Vice Adm. James G. Foggo III, during the 43rd iteration of exercise Baltic Operations (BALTOPS) 2015, June 5-20 in the Baltic Sea, where a total of 49 ships, 61 aircraft, one submarine, and a combined landing force of 700 Swedish, Finnish, United Kingdom, and U.S. troops participated.

Following BALTOPS, San Antonio participated in the maritime-focused city-wide festival Kiel Week in Kiel, Germany.
