HMNZS Otago Changes Command
Royal New Zealand Navy’s Protector class offshore patrol vessel, HMNZS Otago, on August 28th, 2015, hosted a change of command ceremony.
LT CDR Andrew Sorensen assumed command of HMNZS OTAGO from LT CDR Tim Garvan in a ceremony alongside at Devonport Naval Base.
The ceremony was presided over by the Chief of Navy RADM Jack Steer and attended by senior officers, OTAGO Ship’s Company and family and friends of the incoming and outgoing COs.
The ship is named in honour of the New Zealand province of Otago, associated with the city of Dunedin. The previous HMNZS Otago (F111), was a Rothesay-class frigate that served in the Royal New Zealand Navy from 1960 until 1983.
