Local Somali Authorities on Board HDMS Absalon

Danish ship HDMS Absalon’s crew have recently welcomed local Somali authorities aboard the vessel to engage in discussions on maritime security off the coast of Somalia.

Absalon’s Commanding Officer, Commander Per Moll Petersen, twice welcomed Somali leaders from the town of Hobyo aboard to discuss the situation ashore and the importance of continuing efforts at sea to reduce the threat of any resurgence in piracy activity.

Continued naval presence in the area has contributed to the significant reduction in piracy activity, with the last recorded attempt occurring in January 2014.

HDMS Absalon has joined Operation Ocean Shield this month and will spend the next few months working to enhance Somali and partner nation capacities to confront their maritime security challenges and eliminate the threat of piracy in the region.
