Lisbon, Portugal Welcomes USS Arlington

The amphibious transport dock USS Arlington (LPD 24) arrived in Lisbon, Portugal, for a scheduled port visit, Oct. 17, 2015.

The port call is the first in Arlington’s maiden deployment and coincides with Arlington’s participation in Trident Juncture 2015, a NATO exercise designed to enhance interoperability and teamwork with NATO Allies and partners.

While in port, the Sailors and Marines from the ship will have opportunities to participate in various tour sponsored by the ship’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Staff.

This is the maiden deployment for the USS Arlington which was commissioned on April 6, 2013. Amphibious transport dock ships like Arlington are warships that embark, transport, and land elements of a landing force for a variety of expeditionary warfare missions.
