USS Rushmore undergoes maintenance

U.S. Navy’s Southwest Regional Maintenance Center has awarded BAE Systems a $52,125,928 contract for modification work on USS Rushmore.

This contract is an action modification to a previously awarded contract for fiscal 2016 phased maintenance availability which includes the planning and execution of depot-level maintenance, alterations, and modifications that will update and improve USS Rushmore’s military and technical capabilities.

USS Rushmore is a Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship of the United States Navy. The ship was built by Avondale Shipyards in New Orleans and was commissioned in May 1989.

Rushmore is deployed with the Essex Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), which consists of Rushmore, USS Essex (LHD 2), USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) which is deployed in support of operations in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations.

BAE Systems will perform the work in San Diego, California, and is expected to be completed by March 2017.
