The Lord Mayor of London paid a visit to HMS Penzance recently whilst the ship was alongside in Bahrain.

Alderman the Lord Mountevans was accompanied by His Excellency Simon Martin CMG, the British Ambassador to Bahrain, on a tour of the Sandown Class minehunter.

The crew took the opportunity to talk about the Faslane-based ship and their roles on board as well as some of the challenges of serving a long way from home.

The Lord Mayor spent time speaking to members of the ship’s company about his work with the White Ensign Association and the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC).

Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Commander Will Paston RN, said: “The Ship’s Company were very proud to be able to host the Lord Mayor, and it was a pleasure to have him on board and to show him around the ship and to hear about his extensive work with Naval charities”

Petty Officer Paul Garland said: “It was great to have the Mayor on board and to be able to show him around and talk to him about what we do.”
