Sri Lanka Navy Arrests 83 Australia Bound Persons

Sri Lanka Navy arrested 83 persons bound for Australia in 02 multi-day trawlers on 20th August 2012. 

The trawlers, one named “Kavindi” with 39 persons comprising 31 Tamils and 8 Sinhalese and the other named “Prasansani” with 44 persons comprising 35 Tamils, 6 Sinhalese and 3 Muslims on board were intercepted 15 nautical miles off Trincomalee by a Fast Naval Patrol Craft attached to the Eastern Naval Command.

Among the arrested are 77 men, 2 women and 4 children, who are residents of Jaffna, Mullaithivu, Trincomalee, Muttur, Kochchikade, Batticaloa, Habarana, Bulathsinhale, Balangoda, Kalpitiya, Padavi Sri-pura and Mannar. They were brought to Trincomalee Harbour to be handed over to the CID for further investigations.
