Sri Lanka Navy Rescues Injured Fisherman

Sri Lanka Navy rescued an injured fisherman in the Eastern seas on 22nd February 2013. He was brought to the Trincomalee Naval Hospital for medical treatment.

The fisherman had been among the 6-member crew of a multi-day fishing trawler named “Blue Ocean 3”, which had left for fishing from Galle Harbour on 17th February 2013. His eyes had been injured due to an explosion of the craft’s battery and subsequent splash of battery acid. The Navy was informed of the incident by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in a response to a request made by the boat’s owner.

Following the instructions sent by the Naval Headquarters, the Eastern Naval Command directed P 475 to bring the fisherman ashore. After preliminary treatment, the fisherman was sent to Trincomalee General Hospital for further treatment.
