New Crew Arrives aboard HMS Atherstone

Authorities

It was all change for HMS Atherstone as Mine Counter Measure Crew 6 left the Bahrain based ship and were replaced by Crew 1.

Known as the “High Rollers”, Crew 6 were onboard HMS Atherstone for seven months carrying out maritime security and mine warfare operations in the Persian Gulf.

After a challenging and varied deployment, they have just returned home to the United Kingdom to take over HMS Cattistock which they will do after some well-earned leave.

A key highlight for Crew 6 was exercising the minehunter’s capabilities alongside ships from the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Pakistan and Japan during the International Mine Countermeasures Exercise, the largest of its kind ever held.

The ship also supported the United Kingdom’s engagement strategy, visiting ports in the United Arab Emirates.

HMS Atherstone calls Portsmouth her home but remains on station in the Gulf, improving international relations and keeping international waters safe.
